AIG ZONE 2 HOLDS STRATEGIC SECURITY MEETING WITH LAGOS AND OGUN STATE COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE, REITERATES IGP’S DIRECTIVES AND MANDATES STRICT COMPLIANCE
The Assistant Inspector−General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, held a strategic security meeting with the Commissioners of Police of Lagos State and Ogun state Command, alongside other senior officers, to review the prevailing security situations and challenges affecting the two states. He also reinforced the directives of the Inspector General of Police and mandated strict compliance across the Zone.
The meeting which was held at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, featured extensive briefings on prevailing security situations, crime trend analysis and critical operational issues affecting both commands. it also focused on intensified operational alertness and coordination, intelligence−led policing, technology−driven operations, rapid response mechanisms, and the tactical and strategic deployment of officers and assets to effectively address violent crimes and other emerging security challenges. The AIG further emphasized the need for more vigilance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the meeting, AIG Olohundare Jimoh stressed the importance of proactive policing, people−centred and community policing as well as synergy between both commands and other sister security agencies. He highlighted the need for intelligence−led operations, robust information gathering and improved visibility policing, intensified surveillance patrols, targeted raids on identified criminal hideouts, and sustained efforts in crime prevention and detection to maintain relative peace across both states.
The AIG directed that the transfer of cases from both commands to the Zone be stopped with immediate effect. He further stated that in the event of complaints, grievances or petitions from individuals or groups, such matters will be referred to the Commissioner of Police of the concerned Command for proper redress and where necessary, detectives from the Zonal Headquarters will be deployed to collaborate with the concerned State Command to ensure thorough investigation and that perpetrators are brought to justice.
AIG Olohundare Jimoh also directed the Commissioners of Police to ensure that all their personnel strictly comply with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, particularly in maintaining professional conduct and behaviour especially during patrol and investigative duties. He warned that any officer found wanting wiould face appropriate disciplinary actions in line with extant laws. The AIG cited the recent approval of dismissal as punishment for five Police Inspectors over offences bordering on discreditable conduct and violation of human rights, reiterating zero tolerance stance on misconduct that could bring the Zone 2 Headquarters to disrepute if unchecked.
In their separate remarks, the Commissioners of Police for Lagos and Ogun State Commands informed the AIG of notable improvement in the conduct and performance of their personnel. They assured the AIG of their commitment to ensuring sustained strict compliance to all the directives.
AIG Olohundare Jimoh appreciated the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, for the provision of adequate logistics and an enabling environment that has contributed to the reduction of crime rates and boosted the operational successes recorded across the two states.
He also appreciated the Governor of Lagos and Ogun states for their continued support to the Lagos and Ogun State Police which has enhanced operational capacity through the provision of patrol Vehicles as well as training programmes, medical outreach and other equipment, all of which have been instrumental in sustaining relative peace in the two States.
The AIG gave a marching order to the Commissioners of Police in both States to crush all violent crimes and intensify 24−hour surveillance patrol, crime prevention stop and search operations as well as prompt and discreet investigation of criminal cases to detect and prevent criminal activities, while ensuring transparency and strengthening public trust.
The Zone 2 command remains resolute in aligning with the vision of the Inspector General of Police in maintaining high policing standards in line with international best practices.
