Easter 2026: Hon. Rasaq Ibrahim Olamilekan (RIO) Calls for National Unity and Support for Democratic Governance
SURULERE, LAGOS
— April 5, 2026
— Hon. Rasaq Ibrahim Olamilekan (RIO), the immediate past Executive Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly (Surulere Constituency II), has issued a powerful Easter message to Nigerians, urging citizens to embrace the spirit of sacrifice and national cohesion.
In a statement released on Easter Sunday, Hon. Olamilekan extended his warmest felicitations to the Christian faithful, noting that the season serves as a profound reminder of hope, renewal, and the triumph of light over darkness.
A Call for National Unity
Reflecting on the current state of the nation, "RIO" emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity. He called on Nigerians of all faiths to look past ethnic and political leanings to build a more integrated society.
"Easter symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of humanity," Hon. Olamilekan stated. "In that same spirit, we must be willing to sacrifice narrow interests for the collective good of our nation. True progress is only possible when we stand united in our purpose."
Sustaining Democracy through Government Support
The former Council Boss also used the occasion to advocate for active citizenship and support for government institutions. He noted that for democracy to deliver its "dividends," there must be a synergy between the leadership and the led.
"Democracy is a collaborative venture. While we hold our leaders accountable, we must also provide the necessary support to government policies aimed at long-term stability and development," he added. "Supporting our institutions is the only way to sustain the democracy we have fought so hard to protect."
Commitment to Surulere
Hon. Olamilekan, who recently declared his candidacy for the Lagos State House of Assembly, reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots-driven governance. He pledged that his legislative vision would continue to prioritize the security, welfare, and economic empowerment of the people of Surulere Constituency II.
He concluded his message by wishing all Nigerians a peaceful and reflective Easter celebration, praying for continued peace across Lagos State and the Federation.
