Nigerian Institue Of Journalism Alumni Association Elects New Executives as Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi Emerges Organising Secretary

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) has elected a new set of national executives to steer the affairs of the association, with Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi emerging as the new Organising Secretary.

The election, which recorded a total of 197 votes, produced a new leadership team expected to build on the association’s progress while strengthening unity, collaboration and professional engagement among NIJ alumni.

In the keenly contested race for Organising Secretary, Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi polled 127 votes to defeat his challenger, Ake Ayodeji, who received 70 votes.

The result represents a significant mandate for Oluwayomi, who has been actively involved in the association and is expected to bring his organisational experience, energy and collaborative approach to the new executive team.

In the other elective positions, Olumuyiwa Akintunde emerged President with 189 YES votes against 8 NO votes, while Adedola Isabella Omwen was elected Vice President with 188 YES votes and 9 NO votes.

Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji emerged General Secretary with 191 YES votes to 6 NO votes, while Chika Nnamani was elected Assistant Secretary with 190 YES votes and 7 NO votes.

For National Publicity Secretary, Mark Akhuetie defeated Benjamin Sanni, polling 137 votes to 60.

Adegbemi Adewale emerged Legal Adviser with 191 YES votes against 6 NO votes.

THE NEW NIJAA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

The newly elected executives are:

* President: Olumuyiwa Akintunde

* Vice President: Adedola Isabella Omwen

* General Secretary: Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji

* Assistant Secretary: Chika Nnamani

* National Publicity Secretary: Mark Akhuetie

* Organising Secretary: Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi

* Legal Adviser: Adegbemi Adewale

The election has been described by members as an important step towards consolidating the association’s unity and positioning NIJAA for greater impact.

Oluwayomi, in her reaction, expressed appreciation to members of the association for their confidence and support, describing his emergence as a call to service rather than merely a political victory.

She also extended an olive branch to his co-contestant, pledging to work with him and other members of the association irrespective of the outcome of the election.

According to her, the new administration must be driven by a spirit of inclusion, teamwork and shared responsibility, with the ultimate goal of advancing the interests of NIJ alumni and strengthening the bond among graduates of the institution.

The new Organising Secretary is also expected to work closely with the President-elect and other members of the incoming executive council in developing programmes and initiatives that will engage members and further project the vision of the association.

With the new leadership now in place, attention is expected to shift from electioneering to governance, as members look forward to an administration capable of transforming the collective aspirations of NIJ alumni into measurable achievements.

The message from the election is clear: the contest is over, but the work has only just begun.
