Abuja - Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has received recognition for his administration’s performance in healthcare delivery and basic education at the 2026 Governance Accountability and Transparency Index (GATI) Awards organised by the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers (GOMEP) Nigeria.

The recognition followed an assessment conducted by a 12-member committee constituted by GOMEP National President, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, @Ace Premier Hotel, Abuja, No 1 Okemese  Crescent, Garki 2, Area 11 to evaluate governance performance, accountability and transparency across Nigeria’s 36 states, for their forthcoming Annual conference lecture and workshop, On the 26 November 2O26. Venue: Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Opp. CBN HQ, Abuja

The committee was chaired by Ms Rabi Abubakar, Esq., with Comr.  Tochukwu Eluwa serving as secretary. Its assessment identified the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme (DSCHC) and interventions in basic education through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as notable areas of performance under the Oborevwori administration.

GOMEP National Secretary, Prince Clinton Uba, said Delta State emerged as the leading state in the 2026 GATI Awards ranking, ahead of Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Borno, Niger, Abia, Osun, Kaduna and Lagos states, among others listed in the top 10.

The ranking formed part of the activities of GOMEP’s annual conference and reflects the organisation’s stated commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and responsible governance through independent media assessment.

In the health sector, the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, led by Dr Isaac Akpoveta, was highlighted for its role in expanding access to healthcare services and improving health insurance coverage. The initiative is a key component of the state’s efforts to make essential medical services more accessible and affordable to residents.

The administration’s interventions in basic education, implemented through SUBEB under the leadership of Samuel Mariere, also featured prominently in the assessment, underscoring the importance of education in advancing human capital development and improving social welfare.

The recognition comes at a time when public expectations of state governments continue to centre on measurable improvements in essential services, prudent management of public resources and greater accountability in the implementation of policies and programmes.

GOMEP Nigeria, which brings together online media editors and publishers, said the GATI initiative was designed to encourage public scrutiny of government performance and strengthen the media’s role in promoting accountability in public administration.

For Delta State, the recognition places the administration’s healthcare and education programmes in the spotlight, while reinforcing the need to sustain progress through transparent governance, effective public service delivery and measurable outcomes for residents.
